February wrap up

So, I've had a really rotten February as far as health is concerned but I have had a record month of books. Well, if you can't move around there is not much else you can do. I even listened to 3 audio books, something I never do. So, if you are foolish enough to be interested in what I read, here goes:

The White Road - Sarah Lotz The Coffin Path: 'The perfect ghost story' - Katherine Clements     Thin Air - Michelle Paver  The Last - Hanna Jameson

Mad Blood Stirring - Simon Mayo  Offshore: a short story collection - Ann Cleeves  Herland and The Yellow Wallpaper (Vintage Classics) - Charlotte Perkins Gilman  The Growing Season - Helen Sedgwick

The Day of the Triffids - John Wyndham,Barry Langford  The Power - Phil Nightingale,Emma Fenney,Audible Studios,Thomas Judd,Naomi Alderman,Naomi Alderman,Adjoa Andoh  The Hoarder - Jess Kidd  Faces in the Water - Janet Frame

Best of the month had to be The Hoarder on audio book. The narrator, Aoife McMahon, has such a lovely Irish lilt I could listen to her forever but I have to say the saints stole the show., particularly St Valentine with his interest in Maud's love life.

Worst of the month was Offshore, a collection of short stories set on various islands off the coast of Britain. The stories were ok but quite forgettable.

My now almost annual reread of Day of the Triffids was to stop my funk where I kept picking up books and putting them down again. For some reason I find it a comfort read that I can always go back to when I'm struggling. A strange comfort read, I know but hey, different strokes and all that.

Biggest disappointment of the month was the Coffin Path. It was enjoyable but somehow it didn't quite live up to the hype for me.

So I'm now left with a lot of books that I started in February but couldn't get in to for various reasons. I want to try and finish them sometime soon though:

Amberlough (The Amberlough Dossier #1) - Lara Elena Donnelly I'm struggling with this book, I can't really relate to it although it sounds promising so I will try to finish it.

When Christ and His Saints Slept (Eleanor of Aquitaine Trilogy 1) - Sharon Penman Enjoying this but it is soooo long. Not that I usually mind long books but when I'm not well I want something quick and easy

Memoirs of Emma Courtney - Mary Hays,Eleanor Ty This is very dry. Not quite what I expected.

A Symphony of Echoes - Jodi TaylorDon't know why I didn't pick this up again once I put it down.

Moonseed - Stephen BaxterMy most recently started read. I'm enjoying it immensely and its a reread. Reading about the destruction of the world always cheers me up

Hawksmoor - Peter Ackroyd  And finally this audio book read by the wonderful Derek Jacobi. I was really enjoying this til I fell asleep and missed about an hour.;-)

Then I still have two carried over from January:

The Decameron - G.H. McWilliam,Giovanni Boccaccio I had every intention of reading a story a day of this monster. Well, so much for intentions...

The Binding - Bridget Collins I'm only about 14 pages in with this one. I think I may have to restart this when I'm more in the mood. The blurb intrigues me though.

So, that's it so far folks.
